Abstract
The United Nations world water development report (WWDR) is a crucial component of the global water resources assessment program, providing policymakers with knowledge, tools, and case studies for formulating and implementing sustainable water policies. This paper outlines the historical evolution of the WWDR, summarizes and reviews the reports published since 2003, and highlights the main content of the 2024 edition. Drawing on the key insights, solutions to water issues proposed in past WWDRs, and China's water security practices, the paper offers several reflections and observations.
