Abstract: At first, it is verified that the formerly obtained formula for calculating base plate thickness of stilling basin is in good agreement with engineering practices. Secondly, this paper summarizes the engineering experiences at home and abroad, and recommends some kind of effective practices to prevent local scour. Finally, combined with the example of Sanhe sluice provides successful experiences for aged strengthening of large scale sluices.
