Abstract: Based on the synthetic analyses of the main research achievements of the vortex tube sand trap, silt extractor, technique at home and abroad, the formation of spiral flow and mechanism of sediment escaping, the discharge ratio and sediment discharge rate, the design and practical application of vortex tube were introduced comprehensively in this paper. Also, the paper presented the authors own opinions and pointed out the pending problems.
