Abstract:
Based on the seepage observation data and computation results of Fushui Dam using 2-D seepage finite element method, the seepage safety evaluation of the dam was carried out. Analyses show that the seepage is stable at a normal water level, and that local seepage failure occurs in the sandstone foundation at a high tail water level. At the design and check flood level, infiltration over a large area and a large seepage gradient in the downstream slope are found unfavourable to the safety of the downstream slope, seepage failure may occur in the clay blanket and seepage failure in the sandstone foundation may extend to a large scale.
