Abstract:
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB) connects Hong Kong,Zhuhai and Macao districts, and it stretches across the Pearl River estuary.A lot of piers and artificial islands in the water area will have an impact on the hydrodynamic environment in the Pearl River estuary. In this paper,a 2D tidal current numerical model is developed to simulate the hydrodynamic impact from the HZMB project, and the unstructured grids are used to simulate the shape of piers and artificial islands, the finite volume methods adopted to solve the water and sediment governing equation. The simulated results show that the hydrodynamic impact is concentrated on the 5.0 km range of two artificial islands and the 1.0 km range of the bridge site in non-navigable zone, and that the HZMB has little impact on the distribution of hydrodynamic environment in the Pearl River estuary.
